The Abode of the Outside, designed by Anna Rita Emili, is a unique and innovative temporary house that challenges traditional notions of space and form. Inspired by the movement of architecture and the concept of subjectivity, this house features moving parts and elements that allow for infinite spatial conditions in a short amount of time.
The design of the Abode of the Outside is characterized by a simple shape, a pure geometry in the form of a parallelepiped. The house is not governed by the quest for an architectural shape, but rather focuses on the expression of a concept represented in its essence. The grid, made up of 3x3 meter panes, becomes the location of movement, creating a space "out of itself" where total absence reigns.
The house features a sliding wall system, made of recycled steel, that runs along steel tracks on the ground. Controlled by a central computer, these walls can be moved to alter the perception of space, transitioning from total closure to absolute and complete opening. This flexibility allows for extreme spatial conditions, such as inside-outside, close-open, and closed-open spaces.
The Abode of the Outside is built on a concrete platform, serving as a floor-base for the sliding walls and utilities. The design also allows for the addition of pillars outside the house, expanding the domestic space by adding transparent or opaque modules, whether vertical or horizontal.
This innovative design has been recognized with the Iron A' Design Award in 2012. This award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The Abode of the Outside is respected for integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, providing fulfillment and positive feelings, and contributing to a better world.
With its bright and automatic features, the Abode of the Outside offers a unique living experience that challenges traditional notions of space and form. It is a testament to the power of movement in architecture and the endless possibilities it can create.
